Part-Time Childcare Worker (Sessional Position)

Teen Mother’s Program


YWCA Toronto is dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls. Our programs promote equality, economic security and lives free from violence. We help women and girls flee violence, secure housing, find jobs, establish their voices, enhance skills and develop confidence. We offer a range of housing options, employment and training programs, community support programs, girls’ programs and family programs. The Teen Mothers’ Program is a free support program in Scarborough for mothers 14 to 22 years of age. The program offers opportunities to build positive parenting skills and access to resources that support mothers on their parenting journey.

The Part-Time Childcare Worker is responsible for the planning and implementation of the child care program in accordance with the goals of the Teen Mothers’ Department and the overall Association.

Reporting to the Manager of Girls’ and Family Programs and Breakthrough, the Part-Time Childcare Worker’s responsibilities include:

  • Works in cooperation with the Manager and the Child Care Team to develop the child care program;
  • establishes daily routines for the children in the program;
  • works in co-operation with the Teen Mother’s Program Worker to deliver the child development/parent interactive component of the program;
  • works in co-operation with the Teen Mother’s Program Worker to make available parenting information on a weekly basis;
  • organizes age-appropriate developmental activities for the children;
  • communicates with parents on a daily basis or as required;
  • advises Manager of suspected child abuse immediately and of any incidents and issues of concern in the program;
  • ensures the implementation of the program’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Child Care Manual;
  • completes administrative forms and submits to Manager monthly.

You will have:

  • An Early Childhood Education Diploma and currently registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators;
  • 1 to 3 years directly related work experience with children ages 0-6.

The hours of work for this position are 9 hours per week. The incumbent will be required to work Tuesdays and Thursdays (4:00pm-7:00pm) and Wednesdays (12:30pm-3:30pm). The hourly rate for this position is $18.14 per hour.
